The Clermont-l'Hérault olive oil cooperative was founded
in 1920 to triturate olives from Clermont-l'Hérault and surrounding
villages.
Despite the rotation picking system used by olive growers, the tonnage
handled has continued to increase, rising from 173 tons in 1920/1921
to 1,333 tons in 1954/1955. The freeze of February 1956 silenced
the six mills operating in the Hérault and the impact was
so great that local cooperatives decided to halt their activities
and hand trituration of their members' olives over to the Clermont
cooperative
